Erin K. Johnson was a much-loved botanist and geologist who was killed by a bear while working in remote Alaska. Her family established a fund through the Alaska Community Foundation to distribute monies to causes Erin would have loved. The Erin K. Johnson Memorial Fund focuses on science education and outdoor youth activities. It has provided scholarships to Trailside Discovery Camp, Greatland Trust, for their Chugach Pathways Program, science education programs at the Eagle River Nature Center, and scholarships for need 5th graders from Machetanz Elementary’s STEM program to participate in a Marine Science Field Trip, among many others.
Artist David Pettibone has graciously donated two paintings from his “Year with a Tree” series to be auctioned to raise money for the fund.
Erin’s parents, Barb and Steve, asked our Gallery to assist in selling the paintings so we have established an auction on our website. You can participate by clicking here to visit the auction web page to bid.
